NY2004 // Day 1

We woke up early to catch our 8:30 am flight out of SJC on American. The flight was about half full and fairly uneventful. They served breakfast, an omelet with melon. We landed at JFK about 10 minutes early. We picked up our luggage and after some walking around in circles, finally found where to pick up our airport shuttle. We were able to see what NY gridlock looked like on our 45 minute trip into the city.

The shuttle dropped us off in front of Grand Central Station, and we tried to find our way to the hotel, The Library. We knew it was about a block away, but we walked right past it without even realizing it. Thankfully we noticed it after we crossed the street. (= We checked in and found out we were upgraded to a Junior Suite! The theme of our room was Ancient Languages, like Ancient Greek and hieroglyphics. It was a very nice room with a sitting area, and a view of Madison Ave and the New York Public Library. Very Cool!

We were starving (we snacked for lunch on the plane) and called ahead to see if the restaurant could seat us early. We walked over to Grand Central and bought our 7-day unlimited ride MetroCards. The restaurant was on 17th and Park South, on three subway stops away. We arrived at Olives at the W Union Square about 30 minutes early, but walked around and were seated right on time.

Dinner was delicious. They brought a couple types of bread and crackers with olives and olive tapenade. For an appetizer we tried a fig and prosciutto flatbread. It was good, but could have used a little more gorgonzola cheese. We both chose pasta as a main course. I had the house specialty of butternut squash tortellini in brown butter. Yummy! Adam had whipped ricotta ravioli with a bolognaise sauce. Again, yummy! For dessert, I ordered a caramel pecan soufflé. It was very big, and I could only finish half. With the check they brought more sweets, three small cookies. We left, very full, and made our way back to the hotel for Law and Order, and bed.
